Kitchen Odors

I'll admit that the title of my blog post for today isn't the most appealing. But, in my defense, I want to talk about pleasant kitchen odors, in particular, what sort of odors appeal to you most?

We can start with food odors. I love the smell of fresh ground coffee, but I can't stand the taste of any coffee and don't drink it. I love peanut butter, including its smell, but its odor makes my poor mother turn green. I would imagine that the smell of garlic cooking and pies baking rank high among favorites.

The next set of odors are from cleaning products. You can get scented soap, scented dish detergent, scented kitchen cleaner, and so on. Even trash bags now come scented. I prefer lemon scented cleaners. However, Quixtar-Amway did have a spiced-apple LOC Home Trend Collection from a couple of years ago that was really pleasing.

Finally, there are air fresheners. I try not to use these, since most give off toxic chemicals while they "freshen" your air. Instead, I try burning essential oils. I love geranium, spruce, pine, and lavender.

What are your favorite kitchen odors? What says "inviting home" to you? And what scents appeal most?

There was a certain type of cinnamin bread that we could only get at my grandparents. The smell of that toasting in the morning was the best. After a while that bakery in northern michigan stopped making it. Now I've found a similar bread close to where I live. Comfort food is back, and so are the memories! In fact, I think I'll go toast some up now. :)

The LOC orange collection is quite good, though spiced apple has been my favorite(wish that could come back).

i know its not kitchen related, but some of the handsoaps are scented so nicely that sometimes when i leave the restroom, the scent from my hands, a certain apple scent in particular, leaves a very pleasant aroma in the kitchen where i might be working, or with the people who are around me in the living room.

I have candle warmers in different rooms of my home. I have this scrumptious smelling candle called "carrot cake with cream cheese frosting" in my kitchen. In the bathroom, i use a "clean linen" scent and in the bedroom I use a black cherry candle. Strangely enough...I don't know if it is a comfort food issue or what...the smell of cooked bacon is like heaven to me.

How about "Kitchen Smells" or "Kitchen Aromas"?
